Türkiye Erozyonla Mücadele, Agaçlandirma ve Dogal Varliklari Koruma Vakfi (Tema Vakfi)

TEMA was founded just after the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992. It aims the implementation of principle of sustainability in all life stages and for this reason its aims perfectly coincides with the aims of the Rio Declaration. Specifically, it works on the field of combating soil erosion and land degradation that leads to desertification and drought , which is tried to be mentioned by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and/or Desertification, Particularly in Africa (CCD), and the consequences like poverty, drought, risks on food supply and loss of biological diversity , that are also issues of Convention on Biological Diversity, Framework Convention on Climate Change, and of the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002 . The aims and field of activity of TEMA, as in its deed, is within the concept of the objectives of CCD “to combat desertification and mitigate the effects of drought in countries experiencing serious drought and/or desertification, through effective action at all levels, supported by international cooperation and partnership arrangements in the framework of an integrated approach which is consistent with the Agenda 21 with a view to contributing to the achievement of sustainable development in affected areas. Achieving this objective will involve a long-term integrated strategies that focus simultaneously, in affected areas, on improved productivity of the land and the rehabilitation, conservation and sustainable management of land and water resources leading to improved living conditions, in particular at the community level.” as stated in the 2nd Article of the CCD.
