Africa Institute for Energy Governance

AFIEGO is a public policy research and advocacy Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to influencing energy and environmental policies to benefit the poor and vulnerable. It was registered as an NGO in 2005 and in 2009, it incorporated as a company limited by guarantee-as per the NGO Act and the companies Act which allowed NGOs to register as both NGO and companies by guarantee. Based in Kampala, Uganda, the organisation was born out of the need to contribute to efforts to turn Africa's energy potential into reality without compromising environment and human rights. Through lobbying, research and community education, AFIEGO works with communities and leaders to ensure that energy resources are utilised in a way that promotes equitable development, environmental conservation and respect for human rights.
