Tiergarten der Stadt Nürnberg

Nuremberg Zoo was founded in 1912 and translocated in 1939 into an area of 65 ha in the so-called Reichswald forest, which now is a FFH Natura 2000 area. As part of this natural area, the zoo is home to many native animal species (over 150 bird species). But above all, more than 350 different animal species are housed in the zoo. The main purpose of the zoo is to exhibit animal species from different ecosystems: from the desert through the forest to the water. It is of particular value to show species that stand out either because of their threat status or because of their special behaviour, anatomy or nature. Sustainable development plays a central role in the work and further development of the zoo. Nuremberg Zoo is member of various national and international Zoo Associations.
