Introduction
The IUCN WCEL Climate Change Law Specialist Group (CCLSG) is a global network of legal practitioners and scholars in the field of “climate change law”. The CCLSG is the principal source of legal technical advice to the IUCN, its members, and the WCEL on the legal aspects of addressing climate change and its adverse impacts internationally and nationally.
With 400+ members, the CCLSG brings together experts from all continents and different legal cultures and backgrounds.
The CCLSG interacts, collaborates, and coordinates with other IUCN Commissions, WCEL Specialist Groups and the IUCN Secretariat with respect to legal issues relevant to climate change.
The CCLSG team includes:
Co-Chairs:
- Fabiano de Andrade Correa and
- Francesco Sindico
Executive Assistants:
- Marina Trindade
Goals of the Specialist Group
- To strengthen and promote the key role of law in the fight against climate change.
- To provide legal advice to the IUCN in the context of international negotiations, including but not limited to the UNFCCC negotiations.
- To provide legal professionals a virtual and physical space to share ideas and information about their work, and to create opportunities for further collaborations in the field of climate change law.
CCLSG Clusters
The CCLSG is organised around the five following clusters:
- Climate Litigation
- Ocean and Islands
- Inclusive Energy Transformation
- Cities
- Legal Aspects of Nature-Based Solutions
In addition to these clusters, the CCLSG has created and manages a LinkedIn-based “Climate Law Network”, which operates as a forum for climate law professionals to network, exchange information and publish opinion pieces such as blogs and articles.
The CCLSG also works closely with the WCEL leadership in occasion of the annual UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COPs) and other COP processes, as well as in relation to non-COP related international processes.
