Los objetivos del Grupo de Especialistas en Nutrias (OSG) de la CSE de la UICN son proporcionar liderazgo para la conservación de todas las especies de nutrias (Lutrinae), determinar y revisar de forma continua el estado y las necesidades de las nutrias, y promover la implementación de los programas necesarios de investigación, conservación y gestión por parte de las personas, organizaciones y gobiernos apropiados. y dar a conocer el estado y las necesidades de conservación de las nutrias, promoviendo la gestión racional de las especies de nutrias.

Dr. Nicole Duplaix is a Senior Instructor at Oregon State University’s Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. She received her master’s and doctorate degrees in Biology and Ecology from the University of Paris-Orsay, France. She conducted her doctoral research on the giant otters of Suriname, the first time this endangered species had been studied in the wild. She has studied otters and explored river systems worldwide for 55 years and now focuses on otter research and conservation in Asia and South America. She is the founder and Chair of the IUCN-SSC Otter Specialist Group – the authority in global otter conservation. She co-founded TRAFFIC and headed its Washington DC office -- this organization monitors and documents the international trade in endangered and protected species. She is a long-time contract photographer/writer the for National Geographic Society.
