The grant will help secure long-term commitment to management effectiveness of protected and conserved areas in the Amazon basin. This will be achieved through building on the Andes-Amazon Initiative (AAI) enabling framework with a new sustainability standard that will mobilize capacities and cement commitments to verified conservation success, over time. The grant will incentivize successful conservation approaches independently verified through certification based on a set of progressive criteria for protected areas – the IUCN Green List Standard. This standard and program will be adapted to the AAI and build out from the successful investment, management capacity and monitoring metrics already in place. Through regional and global events in 2019 and 2020, and with advanced data management tools in place, the grant outputs will be highly visible, highly integrated with existing systems and platforms, and fully available for the benefit of the conservation community in the AAI region and globally.

The project will help secure long-term commitment to management effectiveness of protected and conserved areas in the Amazon basin. This will be achieved through building on the support by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation for the Andes-Amazon Initiative (AAI) with a new sustainability standard that will mobilize capacities and cement commitments to verified conservation success, over time.
