We have a strong and dedicated team in place to deliver these three programmes of work. MISSION
IUCN SSC Small Mammal Specialist Group (SMSG) serves as the global authority on the world’s small mammals through developing a greater scientific understanding of their diversity, status and threats, and by promoting effective conservation action to secure their future.
Specialist Group work
Through our Key Species work we hope to understand threats and where possible initiate conservation activities. Through our Key Region work we plan to assess and plan for a suite of species in Mexico, Sulawesi, and Ethiopia. Where possible, direct conservation activities are pursued. In addition to species within our strategy, we also take any opportunities to assist our members in doing vital research and conservation work on species.
Assessments & action planning in Key Regions
The Sulawesi small mammal workshop Red Listed 76 species and identified priority conservation actions for species.
SMSG on the IUCN Red List
SMSG assesses species for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species to inform conservation efforts.
