As the global conservation community looks ahead to the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) in Abu Dhabi in October 2025, the IUCN PCA Team and IUCN WCPA are committed to providing technical guidance and fostering collaboration to advance ambitious biodiversity conservation goals. In the lead-up to this pivotal event, we are reigniting the Vital Sites webinar series to catalyse dialogue, share expertise, and inspire action, charting a clear path toward the World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi in 2025.
Protected and Conserved Areas remain critically important strategies to reverse declining biodiversity trends, protecting important places and securing vital ecosystem services for human well-being.
This series of webinars will focus on the priority topics related to protected and conserved areas leading up to the WCC focussing on new and emerging themes. Each session will delve into topics of strategic importance for achieving global biodiversity targets, offering insights, best practices, and innovative approaches to enhance protected and conserved areas worldwide. Bridging priorities from IUCN members, Commissions, and Secretariat, the series aims to align short-term priorities with long-term strategies, ensuring meaningful progress in nature conservation leading up to the WCC 2025.
