Given the rising impacts of climate change across the world, it is crucial that COP29 delivers concrete and accelerated progress across all the pillars of the Paris Agreement, particularly on finance, and enables significantly stronger national commitments from countries to keep the 1.5°C goal within reach.

Guided by its position paper, IUCN will be actively engaged in various processes and spaces across the conference. In addition to calling for greater ambition on mitigation, adaptation, and finance, it will particularly reinforce the interlinkages between the climate change and biodiversity loss crises, highlight the critical role of healthy ecosystems and nature-based solutions in climate mitigation and adaptation, and underscore the vital importance of inclusion and justice in effective climate policy and action.
