Kiwa Initiative
Nature-based Solutions foster climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation for well-being of Pacific communities.
The Kiwa Initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of Pacific countries and territories’ ecosystems, economies and communities by setting up a dedicated one-stop shop for funding projects that promote Nature-based Solutions (NbS). NbS are “actions to protect, sustainably manage and restore natural or modified ecosystems that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively.”
IUCN will be managing a portfolio of very small, small, and medium grants (Euro 25,000 to 400,000) available to civil-society organisations in ODA-eligible countries of the Pacific and the French overseas countries and territories. In some jurisdictions with small populations, governments may be able to apply directly.
The specific objective of this funding is to improve access to very small to medium-sized funding targeting nature-based solutions for climate change adaptation in the Pacific while mainstreaming gender equality and a human-rights-based approach.
