IUCN SSC Species Impact Microgrants (SIM)

The IUCN Species Survival Commission is pleased to announce the launch of the IUCN SSC Species Impact Microgrants, to support short-term conservation projects and activities that deliver immediate and direct impact on the conservation of species both in wild and in captivity.

About this grant

The grants aim to provide support short-term conservation projects and activities that deliver immediate and direct impact on the conservation of species both in wild and in captivity. Activities should be related to Species Conservation Cycles’ – Assess, Plan and Act components.

Species Conservation Cycle a

 

  • ASSESS: Understand and inform the world about the status and trends of biodiversity
  • PLAN: Develop collaborative, inclusive and science-based conservation strategies, plans and policies.
  • ACT: Convene and mobilise conservation actions to improve the status of biodiversity.
 
Grant Amount

Up to USD 5,000 per project 

Who can apply

  • Members of IUCN SSC Specialist Groups (SGs). The Grants if approved, will be processed to the Specialist Group’s designated account / fiscal sponsor or the account of the applicant / organisation the applicant is associated with.  
  • Applications submitted by individuals other than the SG Chair/Co-Chair must include endorsement from the IUCN SSC Specialist Group Chair/Co-Chair. 
 
Eligibility

Projects should:

  • Focus on activities related to Species Conservation Cycles’ – Assess, Plan and Act components.  
  • Target wild/captive species conservation 
  • Demonstrate achievable short-term outcomes 
  • Address urgent conservation needs 

 

Priority

Applications will be prioritised based on:

  • Relevance and direct impact on wild / captive species 
  • Feasibility within the proposed timeline 
  • Urgency of the conservation issue 
  • Appropriate and realistic budget allocation 

Application timeline

Applications will be open round the year once launched in June, subject to availability of funds.
