IUCN at UN Climate Change Conference COP30

From 10 to 21 November 2025, IUCN will participate in the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP30). The conference will be held in Belém, Brazil, in the heart of the Amazon forest, and will bring to the fore the deep interconnections that exist between climate, nature and people.

COP30 will mark the 10th anniversary of the historic adoption of the Paris Agreement. It also marks the return of the UNFCCC process to its birthplace, Brazil, where all three Rio Conventions were adopted at the Earth Summit in 1992.

At a time of growing geopolitical tension and conflict, it is essential that countries redouble their efforts to safeguard the multilateral climate process, and raise their collective ambition to limit warming to 1.5°C.

Building on the outcomes of the 2025 IUCN World Conservation Congress, IUCN will be actively engaged in various processes and spaces across the conference. In addition to calling for greater ambition on mitigation, adaptation, and finance, it will particularly reinforce the critical need for strengthening synergetic action to combat the interlinked climate change and biodiversity loss crises and the vital role of inclusion in effective climate policy and action.
