Ocean and Islands Cluster

The Ocean and Islands Cluster brings together members interested in the role of law in the development, implementation and enforcement of a sustainable and nature friendly blue economy. Coherence between different relevant legal sectors pertinent to the oceans is needed in order to deliver equitable, just and resilient ocean governance. The latter is particularly important for islands (SIDS and beyond) interested in the relationship between blue economy and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Furthermore, the cluster will explore the impact of international litigation on SIDS, as well as the role of islands in shaping international climate governance.

Cluster Leads:

Francesco Sindico, Professor of International Environmental Law, University of Strathclyde Law School and  Co-Chair of the IUCN WCEL Climate Change Law Specialist Group

Lori Osmundsen, Environmental Lawyer
